When launching a new website/company in the EU, do we really need a cookie consent popup on our website?
We work in an industry where visuals on everything.
We intend to have terms of use policy and privacy policy on the website but do we need the pop-up?

Hi! Yes you need a cookie banner as well 🙂 When it comes to the use of cookies or similar technologies it is the ePrivacy Directive that applies and article 5 (3) is clear that you need:
1. the users’ prior opt-in consent
2. to provide clear and comprehensive information about the use of cookies (through a cookie notice)
3. offer the users the possibility to opt-out any given time

Yes – plus any website which offers, or appears to offer, goods and services to EU residents also has to have one.
So unless you make it explicitly clear that you can’t/don’t do this, you have to have cookie consent management.

Yes you need a cookies banner. If you use anything but essential cookies, you also need to to give the option to:
Reject all
Opt in and out of the different cookie types

Depends on the jurisdiction some European countries allow analysis cookies if the data is anonyms.
