Hi,
I have recently had some questions from staff regarding the use of Gener8. This claims to give you (the user) ‘rewards’ for when your data is used whilst browsing the internet.
One of their other ‘handy’ offerings is ‘blocking annoying cookie banners’ – which concerns me.
Does anyone have any experience of this product? What are your thoughts?
Keen to understand if I am being over cautious!
Thanks as always!

Hi Jess,
Gener8 is a relatively new concept, with the business gaining investment on Dragons Den.
I don’t have any experience using the Gener8 browser, but from an Individual level the concept seems clever. There are privacy modes for browsing, or a ‘reward’ mode for informtion that you give over.
I share the same view that the ‘handy’ facility to block cookie banners is concerning. I have looked at their Privacy Notice and there is very little informtion about Cookies and similar technology. From my point of view, the level of Cookie information is absent of some key components, which makes you wonder if the team at Gener8 understand the PECR and the application of cookie consent.
Thanks,
Dean

Brave has been doing this for longer. Having had time to mull this over and I think it’s a step in the right direction but I feel that accepting this as the norm is accepting the comoditising fundamental rights and freedoms. I have no issue with an individual selling either their body or their rights, but no individual should feel compelled to because it is the done thing.
